I think our government by not providing us with real broadband are effectively censoring the net for us :P
China also employs the Golden Shield Project (also known as the Great Firewall of China) over it's citizens. However you may think all this "freedom" and "rights" stuff, we too are being censored in the modern Western World.
For example, there is a torrent distribution website called Pirate Bay. Surely you have heard of it. All they do is offer a single place where you can put trackers, and this is hosted in Sweden. However, the US of A with all it's power and might thought... wait a minute, it is piracy (keep in mind that all the website offers is tracker and not the actual data itself), and the RIAA whined and complained and finally the Pirate Bay servers got raided.
US of A laws so not apply internationally. So the PB servers went down, and within 24 hours back up elsewhere (Norway I believe).
These types of raids are a censorship of our freedom to search whatever we want. We, the people, decide what information/data we want, not the RIAA, or anyone for that matter.

If you want to get passionate about something, THIS is the topic. Mainly because if this can happen in Sweden, where piracy laws are more relaxed, then possibly there is no hope for Australians who download "stuff".
Plus, we don't get half the awesome shows the world gets in a timely manner. I often buy all the good tv shows I download on DVD, especially Adult Swim cartoons.
Internet distribution is not always a bad thing.
